Prepare for Kitty!

For those of you who don’t know, I have a big fluff-ball of a cat called Roari! I got him when he was 8 weeks old and he was so small that he could sit in one of my hands! (and I have small hands!)

My friend (one of my closest) got a Kitten today and my gosh she is cute!!!

But anyway, I thought I would make a blog post on what things to buy and what to do when you get a Kitten! Why you ask? Because I wish somebody had written a blog post for me when I first got Roari! I was a wreck in the first month of being a new Mummy!

So first, What to buy:

A cage (to take it to the vets in);
A bed;
A Blanket;
A Litter Tray;
Food (Kitten food);
Dish/Bowl;
Litter;
Scratching Post;
Toy;
Brush/comb.

When I got Roari, I was lucky enough to have found an offer. In this offer I got the cage, litter tray, bed and scratching post in one. I got it for about £15.00 from Argos. I dunno if they still do this offer but it was so handy!

I then went to the supermarket and got a massive bag of dry kitten food. I started Roari off on Whiskers, because that is what his previous owners were feeding him. It’s important to ask the people who you got the kitten from about what they were feeding the kitten. I didn’t give Roari wet food until he was bout 5 months because I wanted him to get strong teeth (although they were already freaking sharp!). Oh and please make sure it is Kitten food because they need more nutrients than what is in the regular cat food.

I also bought a massive bag of Litter at the super market. And two bowls, one for water, one for food. I also made sure that I bought him a little ‘welcome to your new home’ toy.

I also bought Roari several brushes/combs. You will only need one if you don’t make the same mistake that I did! I didn’t want to brush Roari when he was a baby because he was so cute with his static fur!! But it is important that you start when they are young. I would say around 3 months old. Otherwise they will not get used to it!

So that is the basics. You then need:

Double sided tape

I know you are thinking what the hell?!

When Roari was tiny, he liked to chew wires. I would rap the wires in double sided tape. He hated this and learnt very fast that the wires were not something to play with! They will stay clear of anything with tape on it!

I think, this is all the materialistic things that you need.

This post is a bit long so I’m going to start a second one on things to do with your kitten to take care of them and your house!

Stay Tuned!!
