Korea in the Metro?!

Although Korea is a popular topic in the media at the moment due to high tension between South and North Korea, today I opened up a copy of Metro and on one of the first pages, I stumbled across this article:

What is it? It’s 해장국 (Haejangguk) also known as 술국 (Sulguk)!
Well… that’s the original hangover soup but American soldiers in Korea decided to alter the dish a bit. I was really shocked to see that the writer and editor at Metro decided to mention that this is a dish founded in Korea.

However, you may have your facts wrong Metro.

해장국 (Haejangguk)/ 술국 (Sulguk)
해장국 (Haejangguk)/ 술국 (Sulguk)

The original Korean Hangover soup (pictured above) is called, as mentioned above, 해장국 (Haejangguk) also known as 술국 (Sulguk). Although Americans altered this dish, the name ‘Yaka Mein’ is a Chinese dish. It is also a noodle soup but it is not Korean.

YaKa Mein

There are two points of view on the origins of Yaka Mein. One is that it originated in New Orleans when Chinese immigrants created a Chinatown (which no longer exists).

The other is that Yaka Mein was introduced to the US by African American troops who fought in the Korean War. Is the confusion caused by Americans changing the name of 술국 (Sulguk) to Yaka Mein?

Regardless, I am glad Korea was featured in a British newspaper for reasons other than tension between the South and North or Psy.

Prepare for Kitty!

For those of you who don’t know, I have a big fluff-ball of a cat called Roari! I got him when he was 8 weeks old and he was so small that he could sit in one of my hands! (and I have small hands!)

My friend (one of my closest) got a Kitten today and my gosh she is cute!!!

But anyway, I thought I would make a blog post on what things to buy and what to do when you get a Kitten! Why you ask? Because I wish somebody had written a blog post for me when I first got Roari! I was a wreck in the first month of being a new Mummy!

So first, What to buy:

A cage (to take it to the vets in);
A bed;
A Blanket;
A Litter Tray;
Food (Kitten food);
Dish/Bowl;
Litter;
Scratching Post;
Toy;
Brush/comb.

When I got Roari, I was lucky enough to have found an offer. In this offer I got the cage, litter tray, bed and scratching post in one. I got it for about £15.00 from Argos. I dunno if they still do this offer but it was so handy!

I then went to the supermarket and got a massive bag of dry kitten food. I started Roari off on Whiskers, because that is what his previous owners were feeding him. It’s important to ask the people who you got the kitten from about what they were feeding the kitten. I didn’t give Roari wet food until he was bout 5 months because I wanted him to get strong teeth (although they were already freaking sharp!). Oh and please make sure it is Kitten food because they need more nutrients than what is in the regular cat food.

I also bought a massive bag of Litter at the super market. And two bowls, one for water, one for food. I also made sure that I bought him a little ‘welcome to your new home’ toy.

I also bought Roari several brushes/combs. You will only need one if you don’t make the same mistake that I did! I didn’t want to brush Roari when he was a baby because he was so cute with his static fur!! But it is important that you start when they are young. I would say around 3 months old. Otherwise they will not get used to it!

So that is the basics. You then need:

Double sided tape

I know you are thinking what the hell?!

When Roari was tiny, he liked to chew wires. I would rap the wires in double sided tape. He hated this and learnt very fast that the wires were not something to play with! They will stay clear of anything with tape on it!

I think, this is all the materialistic things that you need.

This post is a bit long so I’m going to start a second one on things to do with your kitten to take care of them and your house!

Stay Tuned!!

Weirdo pt. 2

Before you read this, read ‘Weirdo’ (a previous post).

Today I took Roari (my cat) to the vet to get his yearly vacination. But since he hasn’t had a proper meal since saturday & he’s not been feeling well, he had to skip the vacinatikn. The vet had a look to see what was wrong with my baby.

The vet weighed him, touched his stomach, put a thermometer up his butt & gave him two injections.

Guessed what I’m going to talk about yet?!

It wasn’t the fact that he stuck the thermometer up his ass, that’s normal, it was the sound Roari made that worried me! It was a sound I can only assume to be a sound of enjoyment! (is that even a word?)

It really wonder what all the veriations of ‘meow’ that come out of Roari’s mouth mean!

If I could have any power, it’d be to be able to understand animals!
What would yours be?

It’s so hard. (that’s what she said) hehe!

Okay I’m seriously finding it soo hard to loose weight! I love food too much. I know I should cut down on carbs, and make me portions smaller (although my portions are already tiny), but I just can’t. I know that I can lose weight because I have bedn slimmer, but I feel as if I don’t have time.

My life has been kinda crazy since my grandma came to visit from back home. She’s not very well so I don’t like leaving her for long. And most of my time is spent at work. -_-

But now I’m seriously going to take time out to work out. Even if that means losing a few hours sleep (=[ ).
I need to get slim again & stop wasting £25 for a gym membership I haven’t used in 3 months.

Please leave me words of encouragment!
